Chromebook, Crimebook, Crapbook
Will no one rid me of this turbulent pest?
Well I could go out and spend well over $1,000 to buy a real laptop that can run Linux but I have to buy food instead. How silly of me.
Among the problems it presents are a constant demand to update. I know that trick: the self-bricking machine! Been there, done that, powerwashed it back to functionality.
Then there's the built-in dysfunctionality where it tosses up random things you didn't ask for, including nonsensical character strings in the middle of your typing. I'm pretty sure "need" is not spelled "n7wyzrtgh379". And most of the 'helpful' functions that arise due to accidental key strikes shouldn't be on the machine at all. They can delete that damn 'magnifying glass' key for starters. Actual page up/down would be better to have.
And just what the hell is "Desk 1" and why do I need it? Oh; it's what I'm looking at. There is no "Desk 2" because dividing up an 11.5" screen is absolutely stupid to even contemplate doing.
I do not want 'Gemini" or any other form of AI anyplace near my device!
But what triggered this latest cathartic rant against Crumbbooks isn't exactly its fault. Apparently some security certificate went out of date on a web site I use and the machine decided it had to generate dire warnings of my being hacked. "net::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID" indeed! How nice of them to supply a "Click Here" link to explain the problem more fully. Pity absolutely nothing on that page had anything whatsoever to do with the issue. And of course all of the 'advice' was of the "it's your fault, not ours" nature that hardware and software companies alike fall back on whenever anything goes wrong.
Okay, rant over.
For now anyway.
