Future tech should be beneficial, not destructive.
We all know Elon Musk is a rich kid who likes to play with sci-fi technology. He has no actual understanding of it, of course, he just thinks it's fun.
He's right; it is fun to play with. But technology has consequences. Throughout history we see examples of technological advances having unintended effects on civilisation. Too many times things have been invented and released without anyone ever considering what the end goal really was. This is usually because there wasn't one; it's often a case of "this is cool, let's see what it does".
Hiroshima is what it does.
Now let's look at another of Musk's toys, neural interfacing. Why do it? What purpose would it serve? No one cares; it's just neat to play with.
How about we think of some practical application before going ahead with it? Supposing a patient could be neuro-connected to a doctor. Then when they say "it feels like this" and flip the switch the doctor suddenly gets a taste of what the patient is experiencing. No more of that "it can't possibly hurt that much/all the time" dismissal of symptoms.
Or maybe we can combine it with virtual reality and make an empathy-teaching tool. People could experience what it's really like to be a paraplegic, for example. Or how it is to be from a different culture immersed in an alien one. Perhaps they might even get a taste of really being a different gender.
But no, it's more fun to use your mind to control a robot to pick up a pencil. Nothing like a few million dollars worth of technology to duplicate an action the average human being can do unaided by the age of two, eh?
