Laws won't save you.
A man drowned the other day. Fell off his paddle board and into the water. He was "known to not be a good swimmer" according to those who knew him. He was not wearing a life jacket.\
That's why there's a law that says you need to wear a life jacket when on the water in any kind of craft (paddle boards included).\
Someone was hurt when they were hit by a pickup truck as they rode their scooter on the street. You're not supposed to ride your scooter on the street; there's a law about it.\
Laws won't save you if you don't follow them. They won't protect you from criminals who, by definition, don't obey them. Passing another law will not make anyone safer. People die, and we are sorry for it. But don't expect some piece of legislation to magically prevent it from happening again. It can't. No matter how well-intentioned.
