On swearing
I don't swear much at all; it's not in my nature. Occasionally things go so wahoonie-shaped that it is inevitable, and the right thing to do.
There used to be a popular opinion that only stupid people swore. This has been replaced now by the equally inaccurate notion that the use of profanity is a sign of intelligence. Neither is correct. Swearing is a release of frustration, nothing else. I even made a joke about it:
Stupid people swear because they are frustrated by how stupid they are. Smart people swear because they are frustrated by how stupid the stupid people are.
Currently there are far too many people who think every sentence needs to be punctuated with profanity, and usually "the 'F' word". Incorrectly, I might add; it really helps to know the actual meaning of the words you use, otherwise you come off as a right berk. When you use such language indiscriminately and profusely it reduces the impact of the expletive, so in effect you are a stupid swearer. If you learn to curse properly you will come off as erudite and clever.
Plus you can slip it past the censors, and your target will never know they've just been 'owned'.
