Our gov't invests in AI
Well great: Ottawa is investing "up to" (terrific accounting there) $1.6 billion in some AI company no one ever heard of.
Let's explore some alternative investments, shall we?
How about putting that money into the over-burdened healthcare system? That would benefit everyone not a handful of already rich people.
You know there's a problem with inflation in this country and a lot of people are having trouble paying their bills? Things like food, clothing, and shelter are getting out of reach for average people. Even the ones with jobs. Never mind how much utilities and fuel cost. Maybe that money might be better spent lowering cost of living for everyone instead of enriching a select few.
Heck there's even people who don't have safe water supplies in this country. How many wells can you drill for $1.6 billion?
Oh but investing in doomsday tech will return so much money that solutions to all other problems will be easily funded! Except the part where the profits go to the tech bros and the tax payer sees squat. Especially when the company goes broke. Doesn't anyone remember the "dot com" debacle? AI is just "dot com 2.0".
There's one other way our brilliant leaders could 'invest' this money: pile it up in a heap, set it ablaze, and contribute to global warming directly instead of through data centres.
I suppose we're supposed to be grateful they don't just take the tax dollars for a 'round-the-world vacation cruise that lasts until the money runs out. Of course if they were away they wouldn't be doing things that harm us.
Like 'investing' in the extinction of the human race.
