STUPID technology!
This Crumbbook I use (not out of choice) just had a digital stroke. Things went all wonky, with the screen displaying no tool bar or top of browser which means nothing was usable. Had to reboot, which I avoid doing because it updates itself without my permission.
And that's what it's done. Now my "sign-in credentials are out-of-date" and there's screens popping up telling me to do this and that and how to use it ('cause I wouldn't have learned after ten years of owning it) and OH LORD it tells me now I have to restart to update AGAIN!
Do the people who design this shit never look at it when they're done to see what an absolutely awful product they've built? It's bad enough to use when it works, even with the occasional random characters being dumped into the keyboard buffer ("momenhy6jm7ut bgt5fv4rime ]k8i” i]k,8ced Sometimdc3es " - you understood that, right?) but now it's gone and changed things again (why would I want the text editor to reference the download folder as default?).
Is it the hardware (Acer) or the OS (Gaggle Chrome) or both?
Probably both. Nearly half an hour of mucking about with the failure, the restart, and trying to get things back to normal after what can only be accurately called a crash.
Never mind the horrors of AI; the regular tech will kill us all or make us kill ourselves.
I swear the devices of 30 years ago worked better. At least more reliable. What these things do these days shouldn't even be possible, but here we are.
