Why do I write this?

The merchandising circus

You need a new car. Nothing fancy; just a commuter to get you to work reliably and economically. What have they got in stock? Well this one has thirteen bluetooth-enabled cup holders in the trunk.
Why?
Why would you need 13 cup holders? Why would they need to be bluetooth-enabled? And why the hell would they be in the trunk?

Because it's the latest thing! All the influencers are raving about it! If you don't get in on this latest, greatest technological advance you'll be left behind!

Remember that time you didn't buy an internet-connected refrigerator? It's not as though it would call you when you're at the store and let you know you're almost out of milk. But now don't you feel silly when you don't see those door-displayed ads every time you go for a cold drink? I'll bet you do!

That new professional digital camera has a hundred zillion megapixels, and intelligent programming which can tell what it's looking at and automatically adjust its own settings for 'gorilla' when you take a picture of your aunt Tessie. Why wouldn't you want that?

The software you just installed can save those photos at a default of 90% clarity because who needs 100%, right? And no need to worry about the text size; it's preset at a non-standard value incompatible with everything else. The BOLD and italics buttons are well-hidden, but the "AI will do it for you" and "add a conference call" are right there getting in the way and taking up valuable screen space that could be used for actual content.

Not to worry; the messaging program has warned you of a 'new' sign in on a device it's never seen before from an unknown location. The fact that it's you on the same device in the same place as every day for the past sixteen years doesn't matter; it's an improved feature to protect your account!

Honestly, do these idiots who design this technological garbage that gets foisted off on an unsuspecting public ever look at the useless trash they are promoting?
