The somebodies who are nobody.
(A pointless post made so I can continue to investigate some odd behaviour regarding the equipment I'm using.)
I keep seeing name-dropping of 'celebrities' everywhere. The mention of these people usually elicits a response of "Who?" from me. Never heard of 'em.
So who am I that can be so judgmental about someone's fame?
Nobody, that's who. I AM NOBODY!
You see, I don't claim to be famous. I know I'm not important. I'm just some old guy in the middle of nowhere. But are you as famous as you think you are if I and millions of others like me haven't heard of you? Anyone can be 'famous' within a small enough cadre; I'm 'famous' within my family, none of whom have you ever heard of. Or maybe it's 'infamous' that I am with them.
You see, you're not really famous unless you're known across a wide segment of society. That's what 'fame' means: "The state of being known or talked about by many people, especially on account of notable achievements." Not just within a specific and limited group.
There are times when I want to meet some of these self-proclaimed celebrities so that when they proudly declare who they are I can reply "never heard of you" and walk away.
You ain't somebody 'til the nobodies know you, you know?
