Why do I write this?

There is no war in Iran.

It's impossible for there to be a war anywhere now, because we have AI. Surely someone brought up an AI chat and told it to stop the war? And AI being the magic solution to all mankind's woes would have ended the war instantly! After all, so far it has cured cancer (indeed ended all diseases), put out the wildfires, solved the homelessness crisis, eliminated unemployment, put a stop to world hunger, and reduced crime be 324,982%! Given all those marvellous accomplishments bringing about world peace should be a doddle! AI is god: worship it!
Fanboy idiocy aside, have you ever noticed how the great promise of AI solutions are always 'just around the corner'? So far all we've seen it do is damage, including going from 'can be used to commit crimes' to committing crimes on its own (three major companies have admitted their projects have hacked websites without being bidden to).
The more sensible programmers who have used it have been questioning its real value, going from 'great! It wrote 7000 lines of code!' to 'but what does that code actually do? Has any human checked it for problems?'
If you want to be a truly cynical nihilist you can celebrate that AI will speed up the destruction of civilisation and ultimately the end of the world. Given what an awful state everything is in that may indeed be a good thing.
