When "free" is not free
In my ongoing search for some usable writing program I once again exercised my futility to Olympic Gold standards and had another peek at the pathetic app offerings which could run on this dreadful Crumbbook. Since I'm broke, I'm looking for something that doesn't cost money. You know: free. Like open-source programs that can run on a Linux system, but for Crime OS. Well there are lots out there, and they all have one thing in common:
"Contains Ads. In-App Purchases."
That's not "free".
Free is no strings attached. No "you must suffer through these work interruptions as the price to pay for this 'free' program". No "while you're trying to do something we'll keep annoying you with demands that you buy something".
Does that sound 'free' to you?
Shareware was shareware. Try-before-you-buy had limits on how long you could use it without ponying up. There were also products that offered 'limited' versions for free, and if you wanted all the bells and whistles you paid. And of course there was actually fully-free, this-is-it, end-of-story freeware.
Not now. Nope. Now they will find some way to squeeze a dollar out of you whether you like it or not.
Well that's fine. But don't promote your product as "free" when it isn't.
