Why do I write this?

When negative is positive.

There is no denying the pervasive atmosphere of the Internet these days is negative. A lot of people are pointing out what's wrong with all the things that have something wrong with them. I certainly do it! Then there are other people telling us we shouldn't be so negative.

So I will quote Bill Alexander, the painter who preceded Bob Ross on PBS: "Without the dark there can be no light!"

That's the paradox; if we don't point out what's bad we can never correct the flaws and make things better. There's also the cathartic aspect: sometimes a good (or even not so good) rant against some problem relieves our inner frustration and tension, thereby doing good - even if only for ourselves.

The world is not a place of fluffy bunnies only; there are alligators lurking in the bushes too. If we don't do something about them all the bunnies will get eaten.

The first step in protecting the bunnies is identifying the alligators. The second step is sounding the alligator alarm.
