WIX is a mess!
Looking for a free hosting site for a simple online project. WIX was one often suggested as being 'fully featured' and 'easy to use'.
Obviously there is a difference of opinion on the meaning of those terms.
I had a look, and in doing so somehow 'accidentally' signed up - although sans password and full set-up. Why? Because the site is horrible.
You get bombarded by flashy floating graphics. The actual site information wording is tiny, and nothing is in any sort of intuitive order. But hey! It's free just get your domain name - at extra cost - before signing in. Also, more money. Plus, more money! Also, AI! Did we mention AI? AI!
Okay I don't want this: delete my account.
Apparently there is no way to do that.
Ask the AI agent for help. No answer. Well, actually an answer popped up for too short a time to read it before it disappeared and left an answer that said there was no answer. That AI help is so helpful. NOT!
Why would they make their site such a mess? Do they not realise people who have never done a web site before will be looking at this trying to figure out what to do? (I always approach such services from the POV of a novice, even after 35 years of experience.)
Why yes, they do!
That's why they make it so frustrating: to harass people into popping for their "designed by AI" service which let's you let them construct "your" web site. All you have to do is pay them money!
Nope. Not buying it. Not literally or figuratively. "Free" means "doesn't cost anything" and "easy to use" means for someone who has never done this sort of thing before, not "the people who wrote the code understand it, what's your problem?"
WIX - it's rubbish.
